Domain leasing is a business model that allows you, as the owner of a domain, to rent its use to another party for a specified period of time in exchange for payment.
Valuable domains can be difficult to sell, or at least take time to secure their sale, and in such situations, leasing can offer domain owners an alternative way to achieve their goal, as well as secure instant, short-term revenue.
Instead of relying solely on selling the domain outright, domain owners can grant a lessee the right to use the domain for their website, email, or other digital purposes for the term of their agreement.
The leasing agreement includes terms regarding usage, payment renewal options, and a Buyout Clause, that allows the lessee to potentially purchase the domain at any point during their lease, should they find themselves in a position to be able to do so.
At domainAlot.com, we've created the gold standard in domain leasing for our lessors (the domain owner) and their lessees (lease holders), so you don't have to worry about contracts or agreements but can focus instead on the nicer things, like generating revenue from your assets.
When you offer your domain for lease, the lessee can choose from one of the following alternatives:
The lessee pays you for their lease in advance and once payment has been accepted, the term of the lease commences.
It's that simple. There's no risk. No fuss. Just revenue.

The annual lease price of a domain is calculated at 10% of the domain's value.
So first, decide upon the value of each domain you want to make available for lease.
Select the List For Lease option to make the domain avaiable.
The lessee chooses one of the annual options to determine the duration of the lease that best suits their needs.
For the lease to commence, the lessee pays the lease in advance, allowing you to enjoy income from your asset while retaining full ownership of it.
Domain leasing is an ideal way for domain owners to capitalise on their digital assets without sacrificing ownership. Providing a flexible, no-risk opportunity to generate passive income while maintaining control over the domain's future. Whether you're a domain investor, entrepreneur, or private owner, leasing can unlock the untapped potential of your domains, and turn them into valuable, income-producing assets.

Leasing your domains provides you with several benefits and opportunities that might otherwise be difficult to achieve:
When you list your domain, you must decide how much you believe it is currently worth.
The annual lease price is calculated as ten percent (10%) of the domain's value. This means for example, if your domain is valued at $1,000 USD, then the annual cost for any potential lessee during the term of their lease is $100 USD per year.
When listing a domain at domainAlot.com, you can decide to:
Once you confirm payment, your domain will no longer be visible in our listings and an email is sent to your lessee requesting they provide DNS details, such as the IP Address they wish your domain to point to.
Your lessee should submit these details through their Account Dashboard, and these details will then update in your Portfolio Settings. You must update your domain with these details in order for the lease to commence.
Yes, but only during the active lease period.
During the active lease period, which is the duration of time from when your lease commences until the time it expires, your lessee has the option to purchase your domain outright, if they choose, and are able to meet your asking price.
If the lease with your lessee has expired, you are not obligated to sell your domain, and your lessee will have forfeited any claim to be able to purchase it outright at the current valuation.
This means, that if your lease has expired, you are free to relist your domain at a new and revised rate.
The cost for your lessee to purchase your domain outright is calculated on a number of variables, the most important of which is the duration of their current lease. For example, if your domain is valued at $1,000 USD and your lessee decided upon the minimum, One Year Lease, then your lessee has already paid $100 USD for using your domain. In order for your lessee to purchase the domain outright, they would need to pay the remainder of the domain's value to you, ($900 USD). In addition, a five percent (5%) buyout fee is applied, which is based upon the sum of the outstanding balance, and in this case, it would be five percent of nine hundred dollars, ($45 USD).
If the lessee instead chose the maximum Three Year Lease, then they have already paid you $300 USD for the use of your domain. Should they decide to purchase the domain outright before their lease expires, they would need to evoke the Buyout Clause and pay you the remaining $700 USD for the domain, as well as the buyout fee, which in this case would be 5% of the outstanding balance, or five percent of seven hundred dollars, ($35 USD).
When faced with the option of renewing an unused domain, or attempting to sell and recoup your investment, a domain—and most specially Premium Domain—can sometimes be too expensive for many startups and other would be buyers to purchase outright, despite their willingness to do so.
Many domain brokers offer complex payment plans for potential buyers, which means slow, gradual payments over time to you, and further commissions to pay to the broker.
In such situations, Domain Leasing is the perfect way to generate income from your unused domains, while increasing their long-term monetary value. By allowing interested third-parties to make use of, and test your domains, you are guaranteeing revenues now, while increasing the potential to secure an eventual sale. In other words, you have nothing to lose in leasing your domains, only monies to gain.
